| This is the official OOC thread for the Immortals RP. Please post all OOC comments along with character sheets here. Apply here to join the RP.
Game Information:
Overview Basically, you play the role of Immortals, a bunch of super gods. You have recently arrived at a new world, and you can now shape it to your will. First, we have the stage of Creation. This is when we shape the world, creating landscapes and all types of plants and rock formations. Then, we move to the next stage, where we get our mortal race and we use them to enact our will. Finally, we will have a Ragnarok-like stage where we destroy each other in a catclysmic war.
Omni The Omni is essentially the GM, determining how much divine power an action costs, making rulings on what an immortal can and cannot do, and establishing what the basic features of the world are when it first is created. The Omni has no stats and does not create things like the other immortals do. He/she can make up random events, like natural disasters or a plague of monsters to test races and immortals, or give gifts should he choose. It's all up to the GM's decision on how this over-deity hopes this world will turn out. This time, the Omni will be Jacob.
Players and Stats The players, which its best to have at least 4 and could play with as many as 10 players, have total freedom with how their Immortal looks, acts, etc. The profile for an immortal has only 5 numerical stats: Divine Rank (DR), Power, Presence, Potence, and Perception. Divine Rank is similar to what a level would be in most games. It increases by 1 every two weeks (So by the end of the World's Creation all immortals that started already should reach Rank 2). It can also be increased by spending a good portion of the divine power to gain a rank. This is really only possible early on as it requires more divine power later on. At DR 1, it costs 10 points to level up. At DR 2, it costs 11, and so on and so on. At DR 4 and every 4 DR's after all stats increase by 1. Every time an immortal gains a rank they also gain two growth points to spend on their stats.
The other 4 stats, Power, Potence, Presence, and Perception, are mostly to gauge how powerful an immortal is in one stat compared to other immortals. All immortals with a DR of 1 start with 1 point in all four stats and have 4 growth points to place in any of the stats. The maximum of any stat is 99, which obviously is very unlikely any immortal will ever reach a 99 in any stat. There are no "average" stats, as its more about "how high is my stat compared to everyone else". If all the immortals try putting a lot of their growth points into Power, than all of them are greatly more powerful than any mortal being, but compared to each other they are of similar strength. If one immortal decides instead to place all his/her stats in Potence, then while he/she isn't as powerful as the other immortals, he/she is greatly more potent than any of them.
Power is simple, it is the raw strength, not just physically, but mentally and "magical" (an immortal can call it magic, psionics, or whatever they feel like, that's not what's important) as well. It's the blunt force of their abilities. Forcing the land to rise up suddenly in a jagged mountain range is easy with power. Crafting a single natural formation of beauty and power is not.
Potence determines the "to-what-extent" an immortal can perform certain actions. A high potence allows for a larger possible amount of change. In other words, an immortal can "make more" of something for the same amount of divine motes that a less potent immortal used for making only some of something. Immortal A has Potence 2 and the Omniscent determine they can cover a region about the size of Nevada with forest for 2 motes of power. Immortal B has a Potence of 4 and the Omniscent decides that for two motes Immortal B could cover an are the size of Texas with forest.
Presence will make an immortal's simple existance allow them to do things without spending much divine power. Immortals with high presence can easilly affect mortals emotions and eventually physically change them simply by them being near the immortal. Presence will also determine how ackknowledged an immortal is by races outside their own. While all races will acknoledge the immortals another race worships, unless that immortal is part of their pantheon of worship they will not give much thought to them.
Perception has meaning beyond the 5 senses. Immortals with a Perception of 1 can hear, see, smell, tase, and feel better than any mortal, but that's it. Higher presence allows enhanced senses, using senses at a distance, and eventually alternate sense, like percieving alternate forms of energy and even seeing the past and future. Immortals DO NOT know everything that is going on everywhere all the time. Even among their creations they can miss things. The GM determines to what extent an immortal's perception would allow them to know things in game.
Artifacts Artifacts can be anything and are approved case by case. Every level, 1 minor can be created. Every 5th level, 1 major can be created. An artifact that gave you an extra 2 motes is an ok minor artifact, but you can't have another artifact that does the same thing. An artifact that gave you an extra 6 motes would be a major artifact. Minor artifacts can give a +1 to one stat, major could give +3 to one stat, or +1 to two stats. Really Artifacts are creative liberty, they cna be external objects that can be exchanged, they can be unique minor "beings" that accompany the immortal, or they can become part of the immortal. Sometimes this can have story results, say two immortals battle and one takes the other's eye. Upon reaching the next rank the immortal who lost the eye crafts a minor artifact that will give him a +1 to his perception.
Turns and Points Turns are measured by week. At the beginning of each week the Omni determines how many points of divine power each immortal gains. Through out the week the immortals can roleplay interacting with eachother and post actions they would like to perform. Just roleplaying can be done freely but when posting any actions that involve spending power, the GM must read the actions an immortal wishes to perform and determines how many points it will cost, which the immortal involved will then subtract. Changes to the world are not considered to have happened until the GM approves.
Motes/Points The amount of points that will be spent are based on what the immortal wants to accomplish and what their stats are. The GM should always take into account that high stats makes changing the world cheaper. Also when the second stage begins, the cost for creating a race increases the more powerful an immortal makes them. A generic race of humanoids that would one day become the base humans of the world will be very cheap, requiring only a few motes of power. Small advantages as well as balancing a race by giving it weaknesses to compensate for strengths can help keep the cost low.
The World The world for this round is a flat, rectangular desert island world.
Immortal Profile Name: (Be creative please) Concept: (What are your immortal's goals, hopes, fears? Is there a theme for your immortal? How will your immortal be worshipped?) Personality: (Likes, dislikes; Emotions; How does your immortal act/think/speak?) Appearance: (How does you immortal appear to other immortals? To mortal beings? Any disguises?) Divine Rank: 1 (All immortals start with DR 1) (all four stats start at 1, and at DR 1 have 4 growth points to place however you want) Power: Potence: Presence: Perception: Symbolic: (Symbols for your immortal? Ideas: Favoured weapons, Iconic Image, Favoured animal/plant/element) Artifact: (Your first artifact. Must be minor)
Characters so far:
Immortal Profile #1 Name: Zolum Concept: Zolum is a mainly benevolent deity, quite like a puppy in his view of the world. He is almost completely oblivious of the fact that he is a immortal, seldom interacting with others, solemnly focused on whatever has recently caught his attention. He mourns the death of his twin brother, Zokum, who died in the womb*, with great reverence. Most people neglect to realize the great power he holds. He has a type of "(secret) master plan" but it will take much effort and time. Personality: Zolum views everything and one around him with a smile on his face. He would smile even when his doom is imminent. He values friendship before all else. He quite likes a good sandwich**, although he’s not quite sure what a “sandwich” even is. He considers a gift of a “sandwich” as a sign of great respect. Appearance: When Zolum remembers to put on clothes other than his sandals he likes wearing red cardigans and worn jeans. He doesn't realize that mortals are really any different than immortals, so his dress is the same for the former as the latter. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 3 Potence: 4 Presence: 1 Perception: 1 Symbolic: A big red “Z”, his patented sandals, and a good sandwich. Yum! Artifact: Zolum's Lawn Aerating Sandals™! His patented lawn aerating sandals! Without them, his lawn would be much less green and wet. This artifact increases his efficiency by 200%! He goes everywhere with them. Might he interest you in a pair? (Potence +1)
*Womb, Primordial ooze, black hole, or whatever. Womb is more of a metaphor here. **The first person to present Zolum with whatever they deem a “Sandwich” (be it a time bomb or a major artifact or an actual sandwich) defines what Zolum understands a sandwich to be.
Immortal Profile #2 Name: Atropos Concept: She is a goddess of death... And that’s all I have for now! Personality: Atropos is grim and indifferent, she cares little of the affairs of other Immortals, for she knows that death and decay bring peace and equality. Appearance: Atropos appears to other Immortals as a exceedingly beautiful woman with hair as dark as the void. She is draped in flowing, wispy lavender robes, a grim demeanor on her face. Her eyes are dark purple orbs. She is quite pale. To mortals she is a manifestation of death, in a guise similar to those of Dementors (Harry Potter reference) and colloquial grim reapers, but more corporeal (e.g. she has feet, legs, a head, etc.) She emits a glowing purple mist and her frayed and wispy hooded robes are very dark purple. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 2 Potence: 2 Presence: 3 Perception: 2 Symbolic: Deadly Nightshade (this is her favorite plant), Silver (the metal), Ravens (the animal), A sickle (this is often her weapon of choice) Artifact: The Arbiter’s Cuirass. Look up “aegis” on Wikipedia, It will help you get a better idea of what it is. It is present in both her mortal and Immortal forms. It is made entirely of pristine silver scales, standing out in comparison with her otherwise ragged and worn appearance. It drapes on her shoulder. (It amplifies her impressiveness, thus +1 Presence) Immortal Profile #3 Name:Kth’ssithis, the Fangs and the Fury Concept: Kth’ssithis is a god of the earth, the sand, the fires below. He embodies the sand, the sand embodies him. He is neither good nor evil. Personality: Kth’ssithis rather dislikes water. His ideals surround personal gain. When he wants something, he wants all of it. (Yeah, this bit here is a little undeveloped, but he shall grow as the game progresses.) Appearance: Kth’ssithis is like a centaur, except that the bottom half of his body is that of a snake and the top half is still covered in scales and he retains his snake head. Often when spying on mortals he changes into a an Egyptian Cobra snake. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 3 Potence: 3 Presence: 1 Perception: 2 Symbolic: Snakes, Lizards, Ouroboros, sand. Artifact: The Circlet of the Ouroboros - A quartz circlet in the shape of a snake ouroboros with topaz eyes. It allows Kth’ssithis to focus his mental energy and thus elevate his perception +1.
Immortal Profile Name: Althier, Guardian of the Sky and Keeper of the Light of Knowledge Concept: This is a good immortal. Althier is working towards the goal of enlightenment of the universe. He is worshipped as the god of knowledge, and he wants for people to be intelligent enough to make their own decisions and have independent will. He also guards the sky from evil. Personality: Althier is a wise, calm headed and peaceful type. He does not enjoy fighting, but he is willing to defend the rights of common mortals. Althier radiates common sense and has pretty much no sense of humor. He is a logical, intelligent type and very scholarly. Appearance: Althier looks like a scholar all the time. He has black hair, deep brown eyes, and a pair of glasses on his nose. He wears a common brown robe with a hood, and always carries a book of knowledge and power. Out of the back of his back sprouts two white feathery wings. He wears the guise of a monk on the mortal world. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 2 Potence: 2 Presence: 3 Perception: 2 Symbolic: A large brown book, a torch, a magical sigil, a cloud. Artifact: His book of wisdom makes his presence more powerful. (+1 presence) Immortal Profile Name: Lorthiel, the Silver Judicator of the Cleansing Waves Concept: Lorthiel is a judicator. She intends to cleanse the universe of evil and corruption, and she will do it even if it involves violence and suffering. While appearing soft and gentle, she really is a merciless cleanser. She is a goddess of the sea. Personality: Is soft and gentle, and a healer until she finds evil. With evil, she is merciless, cutting down any corruption and darkness she sees. She depsises anything evil. Overly righteous, you may say. Appearance: Lorthiel appears as a beautiful maiden, clothed in a swirling blue dress. Her eyes glint silver like the stars. She has long golden hair. To mortals, she appears as a regular pretty young girl. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 2 Potence: 3 Presence: 2 Perception: 2 Symbolic: Wave, Silver water drop, mirror. Artifact: Mirror of Reflection. It reflects her power so it spreads out, making her more potent.( +1 potence)
Immortal Profile Name: Morled, the Jack of All Trades and the Immortal Jester Concept: Crazy jack of all trades. No goals or fears. Really, he just wants to enjoy the world and have fun. If only others had his happy-go-lucky personality. He has no real strengths or weaknesses. Personality: Morled is what some would call "mildly" insane or "a little bit" mentally ill. He is satirical and sarcastic at worst, and usually loves to have fun in general. He is strange and forgetful, and usually can't remember the last thing he did, so he can repeat himself. He has no order and no sense of organization. Mainly, he simply enjoys himself and the world. Appearance: To immortals, he appears as a crazy old court jester, with the bells and all. He wears flamboyant rainbow stripes, and enjoys randomly making his clothes change. He appears as a jester on the mortal world as well. Divine Rank: 1 Power: 2 Potence: 2 Presence: 2 Perception: 2 Symbolic: Jester hat, juggling balls, rainbows. Artifact: Juggling balls. These balls are enchanted to give him 1 more mote of power each week. (+1 mote of power) Name: Gupp, God of Goldfish Concept: He is sort of the most minor sea god you have seen. He will over time become as powerful as any other king of the chaotic ocean, but this miserable god is very young, and is like a careless child. Personality: He, when uninterested by something, looks upon the world with a dull pessimism, but surges into a blur of energy when distracted. He gets very distracted. He is typically careless and stupid, easily outwitted. Appearance: He appears in immortal form as a very young child dressed up in a fish scale suit with a wooden shield and sword. To mortals he appears as a fish, only able to manifest this visual form in water. If he can manage to figure this out, why he can't move on land with mortals around, maybe he might actually figure out to make rivers, but that comes later. Divine Rank:1 Power:2 Potence:3 Presence:2 Perception:1 Symbolic: A goldfish, swimming happily in his bowl usually symbolizes him, oh, and a shiny coin! Artifact:The Goldfish-Storage Unit 2000TM, or "Fishbowl" is a highly specialized Goldfish habitat unit fully equipable with many decorations and appliances(sold seprately).(An extra Power point each week, will also store later artifacts) Name: Juggalag, Knight of Order
Concept: He is the Embodiment of Order, and Hates all things chaotic or uncontrollable, this does extend to almost anything living Personality: He is Boring, Dominant, Calm, and Spiteful. He dislikes all other immortals that do not pertain to his realm of order and usually chooses to destroy them via war. This war he usually wages on worlds is known as the March of Order. This March destroys all life it comes in contact with.
Appearance: He appears to all as a ten foot tall being, shrouded in jagged metal armor, with a giant metal sword in one hand, there are no eye holes or openings of any kind, making him appear as a robotic titan. Divine Rank: 1 Power:4 Potence: 1 Presence: 3 Perception: 1
Symbolic: He prefers his Giant Metal blade, plain, reflecting no light, and he chooses a transparent crystal to symbolize him, as it grows wherever Juggalag walks. His followers wear armor very similar to his, and carry swords of the same appearance in battle. Followers from other races are dubbed “Priests of Order” those from the same are “Knights of Order”. Artifact: A Heart of order melts into his chest. This Heart of Order is a crystalline object that he uses to grow his crystals and give life to his creatures.(+1 presence) Name: Estilla, The Dragon born Concept: A monstrous being at heart, this dragon woman wants to destroy in a surge of fire and screams. She only wishes to wage war on all she wishes, to gather the treasures of all others into her horde. Personality: She is angry, greedy, and excited. Typically siding with any god of war or chaos, and chooses to spread each. With the other gods she acts mean and spiteful. She usually feasts on mortals that she comes upon, occasionally even her own. Appearance: She appears to the other gods as a slim, young woman with the head of a monstrous dragon. To Mortals she appears as the full body of this great beast. Divine Rank: 1 Power:5 Potence:2 Presence:1 Perception:1 Symbolic: She takes the form of a Bronze Dragon, and chooses nothing but the beast to represent herself. Artifact: A dagger forged from her own tooth, curved and golden, gives her the ability to wield her great power over a broader range.(+1 potence) Character sheets update every week.
